October! What a great month. These were some of my favorite things during the season of the dead.
Book: Stories in Stone: I received this book as a gift. Its basically a handbook of different symbols on tomb stones and what specific architectural designs on tombstones or mausoleums mean, and what they can tell about what the deceased occupation may have been or what they may have enjoyed in life. Its a very interesting book and I definitely treasure it.
Movie: Mad Max: I've pretty much been obsessed with the Mad Max movies since August, but with news of a fourth installment in the making, that obsession has flared dramatically. I just like these movies a lot, not entirely sure why. It could be the guns, the leather jackets, the cars, but probably the post apocalyptic wasteland setting. The concept of the combination is interesting.
Music: The Deadfly Ensemble: I have been obsessed with these guys lately. The Deadfly Ensemble is Cinema Strange- mastermind Lucas Lanthier's latest project. They're a more acoustic in sound compared to CS. If you haven't heard them already, you should start digging! My favorite song "The Horse on the Moor" is a good place to start.
Fashion: Tasseled corset dress from Restyle.pl: Words cannot describe how happy I was to receive this dress in the mail. Where do I start? Over all, the material of the dress feels like taffeta but it has a velvet floral print on it, adding an interesting texture. The dress is longer in the back than in the front. I'm 5'2" and the front comes to a little above my knee and the tassels in the back drop to just an inch above my heel. The bodice has gorgeous velvet and corded detailing. The bodice also has plastic boning to help the dress keep its shape. There is corset detailing in the back to ensure a proper fit. The bottom of the dress is actually not attached to the petticoat it came with as pictured, so I've also been experimenting with putting different length skirt's underneath. The hem of the dress is trimmed with tassels and black lace. I receive nothing but compliments when I wear this out. I love it!
TV Show: Once Upon a Time: I tune in every Sunday to watch it =).
People: Geoff Parry a.k.a. Mad Max I Villain, Bubba Zanetti. Ever since I saw the mad max movies, I became very interested in the actors in the movies. They were fantastic! Especially the villains, and even more particularly Toecutter a.k.a. Hugh Keays-Byrne and the icy, almost creepy Bubba Zanetti a.k.a. Geoff Parry. I did a lot of research and found out what had happened to the actors after the Mad Max movie was completed. However, Geoff Parry seemed to have dropped off the face of the planet after the mid 90s. I was on a Mad Max forum this month when I read that Geoff Parry's nephew frequented the forum and wrote the mod that Parry had in fact died in 1999 of some illness. Very sad, but at least it gave some closure.
And that's it! This month has been hectic because of exams. but this was essentially how I spent what
little time I had during my favorite month. I hope your October was as wonderful as mine was!
